Please come to the Tartan Day Parade so we can have a large group walking up 6th Ave as Proud Macleod's and wear whatever tartan material you have for the day.  Meet at 44th and 6th Ave before 1pm and look for Bob, Kathy or Will B to get your parade badge.  Look for people wearing the Loud MacLeod Tartan, then you will know you are in the right place. Lets go get them this year as the largest clan there!!!

WE ARE RELATED!!!

Just the other day, our Commissioner Scottie Mac Boles received his results back, and he found out that he is related to me.  GO FIGURE!!!!  I only met Scottie about four years ago, a complete stranger and now we find out about this, having a distant relative as common to both of us!!!!  How about that happening, 1 in a Million chances, WOW!!!  Guess that means we are not friends anymore, just related!!!  HA, HA!!  Wonderful stuff this DNA study.

NEW DNA RESULTS RECEIVED.

The Family Tree DNA company sent me some new results at the 25 marker test and that has linked me to one individual in our clan society with a direct common descendent.  I am very happy to receive this result because we are friends and have worked together on clan business in the past.  James Blount MacLeod of Raleigh, NC and he tells me that his family was also from the Isle of Skye.  So now we have much to talk about in exchanging our knowledge of both families.

I am still waiting for my full 37 marker test to be completed.  Now I am quite excited about the way this is going that I went ahead and ordered the new 59 marker test.  I am hopeful that more living relatives will be found in this manner.  As I receive my results then I will post them here for you all to read about it.  More participation is needed in the program from males in  everyone's family to get better results in your genealogy search.

I have a cousin in Calgary, CA that is having a test done for her female to female line on that side of the family.  But she is also having her father's test done.  He is my mothers only living brother age 91, so that should prove very interesting for that side of the family as well.  It's best to have these test done for the elderly in the family, because that is a generation ahead and we should not let that go by without having that information.

The below article will remain until more information is received.

DNA TESTING

A few years ago I signed into the Clan MacLeod, Y-Chromosome male to male testing, in London, to see if any of us were related to the Vikings or if any of us with the same name may be related through blood lines.  Well to make a long story short, I did not get any results from that test for whatever reason.

However, I decided to sign in with the new recommendation by the clan to The Family Tree DNA Company located in Texas.  They have many tests that are available to choose from, I choose the least expensive test to start with, which was what they call the 12-marker for the low price of $99.00.

Well just the other day I received my results back and I was amazed to fine that I am closely related to 12 individuals still living around the world with over a 92% accuracy.  They supplied me with their E-Mail address so I contacted two of the individuals that I know very well through the clan and now we can see just how we can be related through our ancestors that emigrated to the new world in the 1700's.

Through our conversations, I got very excited and signed in with the Family Tree DNA company and bought what they call a 37-marker test.  This whole thing is very interesting to me, because several of the people on my 12-marker test are from the south.  I always contended, while I was doing my manual research of genealogy that there was the possibility of distant relatives of mine who sailed to Virginia or the Carolinas in the late 1700's.  So this short test has proven that to be correct.

I cannot wait for the results of my next test to come back to me, which will give me a more positive results within a lesser time frame of only a couple hundred years.  That is a very close result, because when I think of the fact that my Mom lived one hundred years and was only eight years younger than my father, means that I am only talking about her grand mother or his grand mother generation.  All of which I have their information in my files and are positive about the accuracy.  That news to me is very exciting as I am still doing my genealogy work back to my great-great-great-grand parents and on to Scotland.  All of which I have completed on both sides of my family.

The good news is that I have not found any horse thieves, bandits, murders, none of that.  Only good Christian people trying to raise families in a different land than their own.  All of that had to be very difficult on them in many ways.  Because I have many books on the subject that verified the hardships they had to go through.

Anyone that is interested in doing genealogy work on their family tree should sign into this program.  Or even if you are not doing your family tree, I encourage you to sign in with this company and find some of your living relatives, that may have already had their test done through this program.  The more that signs in under the MacLeod program will get some amazing results.  Because each time someone joins the group, then those results are sent out to the individuals that are related and you get notified as well.

The testing is male to male in this study.  However, you can have paternal and maternal tests done as well and female to female tests can be done.  I still have a uncle in Canada, who is my mothers only living brother and while he is still available we are having the test done for him.  His line will be very interesting to me, because that will be on my mothers side of the family, male to male and it should verify some of the information that I already have for that family, father to son, father to son.  I have asked his daughter to get some tests done to follow the female to female line on that side of the family as well.

These test are a very positive way of checking all of the research that individuals have finished or thought they had finished.  They verify things very closely because you cannot deny the DNA markers.  I encourage all members and friends of the family to join the large group that has already had their test so that this program will expand to some positive results in research for everyone.  For more information you may go to their website,  www.familytreedna.com or you can check out the other MacLeod Links to this site, or contact me at rkmacleod@optonline.netor by telephone 631-928-0032.
